Visiting Atlantic Canada

Atlantic Canada, includes the four Canadian Atlantic Provinces. New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island make up the sub-region of the Maritimes. Halifax, the capital of Nova Scotia and the largest metropolitan area in the Atlantic region, was Canada's first British town. Like many cities in the area, Halifax is an ideal place to set out on foot discovering the culture and history of the area. St John's in the far eastern shore of Newfoundland and Labrador, is another significant regional city with claims as the oldest settlement in North America. St John's is also the easternmost city in North America and not to be confused with Saint John in New Brunswick.

Summers are delightful in the Atlantic Provinces, with long days and moderate temperatures, the region is perfect for sightseeing and outdoor activities. The Dutch Mason Blues Festival 2010 is hosted in Truro, Nova Scotia. This is the 6th Annual festival held August 13th through 15th. An impressive lineup includes concerts by Robert Cray, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, James Cotton and Johnny Winter among other greats. In addition to great music, weekend festivities include BBQ Competition, Motorcycle Show and artists fair.

Prince Edward Island is Atlantic Canada's smallest province with claims of being the greenest. It is certainly an idyllic place to visit, relax and enjoy a getaway. Charlottetown, PEI's capital and largest community is called Canada's birthplace. From July through September Homburg Canada Inc presents a free daily sound and light show recapping the islands history and culture. The show is projected off of Province House, a National Historic Site of Canada, making for a fun and informative way to learn about the area.
